so
10x+900-9x=980
x+900=980
x=980-900
x=80

rishabh   let us assume entire quantity of petrol is 100 now 10% is adulterated .remaining pure quantity is 90 and adulterated portion is 10..to take the purity level to 98% we should add 8 more.but percentage should be taken of the adulterated portion ie 8*100/10=80 %
