A drove of sheep and chickens have a total of 99 heads and feet. There are twice as many chickens as sheep. How many of each are there?

karthi   c=18 and s=9 is the correct answer radhika...legs count of chicken=36(18*2),legs count of sheep=36(9*4),so total=72+(head count of both sheep and chicken=27(18+9))=99:)....

let number of sheeps = y
Head of sheeps = y and legs of sheeps = 4y
Total head + legs = 3x+5y = 99.......(i) [Given]
There is twice as many chickens as sheeps.
=> x = 2y..........(ii)
From equation (i) and (ii), we get
x = 18, y = 9 Answer.

total number of heads=(x+y)
since the given data is total number of heads and feets of chickens and sheep=99
therefore, (x+y)+4x+2y=99
5x+3y=99...........(i)
from the 2nd given condition it is giventhat there are twice as many chickens as sheep, so we get:-
y=2x...........(ii)
solving equation (i) and (ii)
we get
x=9, y=18
i.e. number of sheep=9
number of chickens=18
