Pattern of Written Test

Aptitude Test : 0 Minutes
Quantitative : 0 Minutes
Reasoning / Analytical : 0 Minutes
Verbal English : 0 Minutes
Technical : 120 Minutes
Details of types of questions asked in each of the sections:
The written exam was not a multiple choice objective type exam (generally as in other companies), but was totally
descriptive type.
Total no. of questions : 55
Questions were like 'write in short', 'definitions', 'differentiate between', etc.
*First 10 questions were about drawing BMD, SFD and deflection profile of given beam or frame structures.
(overhanghing beam loaded with UDL; portal frame(with different support conditions) loaded with central point
load, UDL, horizontal load; etc.)
*How the load is distributed from slab to secondary beam, secondary beam to primary beam, primary beam to
column.
*Questions from IS 456 like min. cement content and max w/c ratio for M25 concrete; requirement of duration of
form work to column, beams, slabs;
*Questions from Prestressed concrete :- min grade of concrete, etc.
*Questions from Earthquake Engg. :- significance of mode shapes; definitions of epicentre and focus; effect of soil
type on structure under earthquake.
*Plastic design :- Explain in short about 'Mechanism', show beam and sway mechanism for simple portal frame.
*1 problem on Moment distribution method.
*Definition of Centre of mass.
*1 problem on design of tension member by IS 800:2007.
*1 problem on analysis of truss.
*types of failure in steel plates under tension.
*different kinds of compression members.
*limits for deflection criteria.
Overall, in all the subjects, basics were covered in the written exam.

Technical Interview

In technical interview, mainly they asked from the written exam paper. They asked details in right answers. I didn't
attempt one question, so they gave hint on that question and asked to solve it. They also asked few questions on
Steel design as per new code IS 800:2007.

HR Interview

They asked about myself, about willingness to work anywhere in India, whether I am planning for PhD or not, my
ambition in life and what kind of job I want to do.

Suggestion

*First of all, be thorough with all the basic subjects of structural engineering (Analysis, RCC design, Steel Design,
Prestressed concrete and Earthquake engg), don't wait for the time when companies start visiting the campus, do it
well in advance.
*Go through all the projects, industrial trainings and seminars/papers presented by you and check every minute
details.
*Some companies are having aptitude test also. Practise some fundamentals of aptitude questions.
*Be CONFIDENT while answering in interview. For placement, this factor is as much important as your knowledge.
*Never bluff in the interview. If you don't know anything, just accept it.
ALL THE BEST TO ALL. Wish you all have best placement, best wife/husband and best life waiting for you....

No. of Candidate applied And Points that Worked in Favour

The company people were very co-operative, cool and friendly. Written exam was actually of 2 hours, eventhough
they allowed students to write even after 2 hours completed. Written test was good, it covered all the basics, but i
think it could have been better if they could give more number of problems and some aptitude questions also. In
interview, they checked clarity of fundamentals and confidence while giving answers. Overall, it was a very nice
experience. I thank Training and Placement Section for providing us such valuable opportunities.
