Question:
There are 4 identical oranges, 3 identical mangoes and 2 identical apples in the basket. the number of ways in which we can select one or more fruits from the basket is
A:
60
B:
59
C:
57
D:
56
Ans: B
Solution: There are 4 oranges, 3 mangoes and 2 apples.
From 4 oranges we can select either no orange or 1 oranges or 2 or 3 or all 4 oranges.
So No of ways of chosing = 5
Similarly we can chose 0, 1, 2 or 3 mangoes out of 3 mangoes.
and we can chose 0, 1 or all 2 apples out of 2 apples.
So total number of ways of selecting fruit = 5*4*3 = 60
But we have to exclude on case in which no fruit is chosen
Hence required answer = 60 - 1 = 59
