There was a direct interview process for the shortlisted candidates from all the eligible branches. Only top rankers of each branch were selected for interview. Top 3 from electrical, top 5 from mechanical n top 6 from ece were allowed to sit for the campus interview.

Questions asked were:
1. types n working principle of circuit breakers
2. draw single line diagram of any substation
3. working principle of buchholz relay
4. advantages of HVDC lines
5. disadvantages of poor power factor
6. applications of single phase induction motor
7. working principle of air conditioner
n sum very basic technical questions

1. what do u know abt NTPC
2. Why do u want job in NTPC
3. tell abt ur family background
4. how do u see urself in future

Try to be in the top 3 ranks of the department .

They asked me questions from my 3rd year projects n internships. A good cgpa is very important to get selected in a psu.
