Topic of GD for my group was "Mechanical control v/s Electronic control of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery"
Every person was first allowed to express his view in the order we were sitting & a round of cross questioning followed.

Shortlisting criteria was OGPA above 6.00..

nterview started with a series of technical questions. They consulted the GPA cards & looking at the names of subjects, asked 2-5 questions from almost every engineering subject concerning the branch.

Questions ranged from basic engg. questions ( Materials used for various purposes, IC engines, Electric motors etc) to Branch specific questions (Opencast & Underground production & transportation machinery, wire ropes, mining methods, maintainence procedures, applicability of different machines & methods etc)

After this, a series of general awareness questions were asked (Today's headlines, name of vice president, capital of chattisgarh, Newton's second law etc)

Then they asked me about why i joined this branch, do i really intend to work in mines, how will i cope up with new circumstances & what are my hobbies(they consider hobbies are the only thing which keep us going in secluded areas like most of the mines so, ans this question seriously)

Don't mess with the Technical part, if you don't know the answer, don't go for wild guessing. Though, if you are almost certain give it a try.

Try to enter the hall with a smile on your face.

Don't try to dominate but then again, don't be too modest. They don't know you & would select you on basis of 15-20 min talk so, try to tell them how good you can be for them. Try to make your every plus point count.

Never show them you don't love what you do or you are doing this cos you are not good at anything else. First, feel proud of what you have, & then show it!

I answered all the technical questions except one so they were sure i am technically fit but as a branch mate told me after his interview "Pura technical poocha yaar!", i was not expecting general awareness questions. So when the interviewer asked me Newton's second law, i was taken aback. I thought my interview has gone really bad & now they are making fun of me. It was a big letdown & i was sure i am out of race now. When they asked me Chattisgarh's capital & then added mockingly "You know its an state, isn't it", i said "No sir, chattisgarh is itself a capital". They burst out laughing & after that tension eased pretty much. They started to smile & were very helpful for the rest of the interview. I can't say for sure but most probably, it was that laugh that did the trick for me.
