It was of about 30 minutes duration.
The questions which were asked in the telephonic interview were:
1. Why do you wish to join Rio?
2. Short term & long term goals
3. Knowledge about Rio
4. Expectations from Rio
5. What is your understanding of SAFETY?
6. What do you now about Western Australia?
7. How would you adjust in a remote location?
8. Examples of team leading, challenges faced, etc.
The process followed by Rio Tinto was:
1) Submission of CV
2) Telephonic interview
3) Reference check
4) Online assessment tests, comprising of 3 tests: Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability & Logical Reasoning tests..
4) Personal Interview
Technical & HR questions were mixed, they were not asked separately.
For technical, the sole focus was on PROJECTS & safety...
HR questions were varied & included questions from teamwork, leadership abilities, prioritization of multiple tasks, ability to adapt to Australian environment, ability to keep yourself motivated in remote locations, etc. The interviewers were making notes of the answers.

Of all the applicants, about 40 were shortlisted for TELEPHONIC interview..
Out of 21 students shortlisted for PI, 3 were called for a SECOND round of interview, which lasted for 30-45 minutes. It was taken by senior HR personnel & the questions in this round were based on the ANSWERS given in the first round. It was basically a verification round & all 3 were finally selected.
The 3 selected were from final year of the following branches:
1. B.Tech (Electrical Engg.)
2. B.Tech (Mining Engg.)
3. Dual Degree [B.Tech (Mining Engg.) + M.Tech (Mining Engg.)]
