Technical Interview

Almost all of my interviews lasted for about 15-20 minutes.
Technical questions (Civil) - Mentioning only the good ones:
Surveying planning, setting out of building, bench marks and Reduced Level.
Construction joints, **EQ Load, **Wind Loads, Different types of foundations as per the building & site conditions, **Cement-Concrete-Steel properties, **Pavement Design, Hydraulic jump, **Reinforcements, **BMD & SFD, Hazardous waste on a construction site.

HR Interview

HR questions:
very common - strengths, weaknesses, leadership qualities, ambition in life, 5 years down the line
Some out of the box questions -
1. Choose one and only one out of your mom & dad to save from a fatal situation. Who & Why? - I said my mom because my dad would want me to that.
2. Describe your ideal wife/husband?
3. What would you do if you found about a huge scam in the company funds?
4. What is your favorite food? Describe the recipe.

P.S.- HR questions do not have a fixed answer. Yes, there are some Do's and Don't's. But on the whole, they are just meant to judge as to how coherent and logical your thinking is. Never make things up. These HR guys have a great sixth sense. Trust me!

Other

The toughest selection procedure was in ZS Associates. More than 100 students applied for written but only 36 got selected for GD. GD was fine... "Socialism Vs Capitalism". Them there was a case study on a real-time business problem - hard core Sales & Marketing based questions. There was an interview on that case study. Then there was a Behavioural Interview - to judge your office manners, a little bit of IQ and mainly your approach to problems - very vague questions like No. of cars in Jaipur (my home town), No. of 2-page letters (.doc format) that you can store in 1 GB pen-drive... Please mind that out of that 2 GB only 1.7-1.8 GB is actually available. Then there was the Principal Interview - the toughest of all. Taken by the top 2 people of the company. Mathematics based Sales & marketing questions.

In OnMobile, the written tests were very tough. Pure analytical and Reasoning based questions. Just like those that appear in CAT.

In all the rest of the companies, procedure was pretty much standard.

Suggestion

I learned that you can succeed failure with only i attitude - "Bring it On!". Don't be disappointed. You are IITians. You are groomed to be adaptive. So if it is software job, core job or even a business consultancy, do not leave the opportunity because you can and will do well in that field.

After all, B+ is not just a blood group!

No. of Candidate applied And Points that Worked in Favour

I guess my excellent communication skills and confidence gave me a huge benefit. In tech. questions, I had a handicap. But i managed to pull it off somehow. I appeared and got to the final rounds of almost all major and reputed companies - OnMobile, ZS, Tata Steel, IVP (i was called to delhi for final round). I would not say I was not sad. I was more than sad. I broke my wall clock in anger. But I did not give up. In every next company, I went with even more zeal and confidence and gave my best.
