Pattern of Written Test

Aptitude Test : 0 Minutes
Quantitative : 0 Minutes
Reasoning / Analytical : 0 Minutes
Verbal English : 0 Minutes
Technical : 0 Minutes
Details of types of questions asked in each of the sections:
.............
The written test has 4 sections.
Each section is as follows.
1st section is general aptitude. 2nd section is technical aptitude. 3rd section
has a programming question . 4th section is essay writing
NOTE:each objective section has negative marking(25%)
1st section :(20 min)
..........
This section has general apti questions which are not really tough
except that its just for a short 20 minutes.
There were all together 20 questions in this section which includes
not just general maths but even a di question
where in we were given a few pie charts and asked to solve a few
questions(3) on that.In maths compositions,
partnership, percentages, probability were touched and i am quite sure
this is not all, but i dont remember exact details.
In this section i just attempted 11 questions . After giving the test
,i processed a few questions and i realized one of them was wrong .
That would make my count to app 9 correct answers.
2nd section:(20 min)
..........
This is also a 20 question sectional where we had questions on
c,c++,java . Most of the oop concepts were tested .
Questions on strings were present using pointer manipulations where in
we had to find the output after processing
the pointer further in the program. Most of the questions were on
finding out the o/p of a program and most of the questions were
approximately a page.We should be able to say if the question might
give a compile error or a run time error.. I attempted 18 questions in
this section .
3rd section:(20 min)
..............
We had a lengthy question given in which even the way we need to take
the i/p and then the way we need to display o/p was clearly specified.
Just reading the question alone and thinking of a solution that has an
order less than square(n) itself took around 15 min to me and the
worst part is that i didnt even realize this until they have announced
that we had only 5 more minutes. I was able to complete the code
because i took a minute out from the other section.. :)
The question was like this :
There are many friends each present in a particular location in space
specified by their x and y co-ordinates(assuming a 2 dimensional
space) and when we are given the input (name of one in the group) we
should output the names of the nearest 3 friends where the distance
can be calculated in the same way we do in co-ordinate geometry. This
should be done in the most effecient way possible.
4th section (10 min)
.........
This is the ultimate time pass round. I was quite satisfied with my
essay as i was enjoying myself writing it. The picture showed the
liberation of a person from his shackles which can be interpreted in
your own way. Ex: You might say that people should be able enough to
get out of their own problems (or) you might say that parents should
liberate their child early enough and allow them to take their own
decisions and only then they will be able to see the true colors of
world through their own eyes (BOMMARILLU :)) etc..

Technical Interview

It was a three member panel and they interviewed me for some 40 minutes
Interview started with my project at IBM.
I was asked about open and closed hashing . A program for in place
merging of bsts and hashing.About arraylists, vectors, hashmaps etc in
java stl and the advantages with each of them over the other. The basic
diff between unix and windows. How windows improved versions are
better than the previous ones. Questions on the no of unclustered
indeces possible, what actually happens when u program for an
index,and a few queries.Then about zombies,proc structures,calloc
implementation details.Later they discussed whether to ask me further
questions on programming languages but later decided against it. The
way they looked at each other and started ticking at the subjects on
my resume i decided i almost made it and was more confident after they
asked the question "why do u want to leave ibm?".
I told them that instead of working in such a big company with lakhs
of employees i would prefer making my mark among a few people .And the
results were out in the afternoon after they were done with the
interviews of the rest.

HR Interview

there wasnt a seperate hr round but still the lady had ample time to get to know us before the interview as she had
been chit chatting with us .

Suggestion

Please read each and everything in core subjects of our curriculam. And please be good on projects which u will be
put in
resume and database you are using. If you studied hard u will definitily crack any company. ALL THE BEST .....

No. of Candidate applied And Points that Worked in Favour

After the apti i was almost confident that i would get through and
it's then that i started preparing for the interview because till then
i hadnt even opened my books .I just surfed over internet to know a
few things like why c++ is safer than c,what are smart pointers and
how to use that in a program etc. Then results were out and i went out
and came back at 7.I opened last year feedbacks again and saw the
questions asked in os and decided that i have time only for dbms. I am
basically poor at dbms and dont remember a bit of it so i had to start
with the queries, then cursors, then triggers, then different
indeces(clustered and unclustered),then a few things on how stuff is
stored on drives and how its retrieved .As i was confident enough on
OS and networks i thought i would rather sleep. My interview was at 9
the next morning. So i got up at 7.30 and saw some c++ concepts like..
