there were 40 aptitude and 30 technical questions (a total of 100 marks)

aptitude was very easy and technical was quite tough with questions from all disciplines of mechanical engg

the qualifying marks was 60% in the written test, later reduced to 55%

division of india on linguistic reasons justified or not with reference to telangana issue

well it was my first PI and the HR questions were not too many
simple questions were asked about self introduction, career goal and why i want to join their company

the technical was quite long
the first question was asked the courses studied in my last semester and my favourite subject
when i answered fluid mechanics, i was asked the reason why
then i was asked a lot of questions on it

the ones i can remember are:
what is a pitot tube and its function?
what are the parameters on which a fluid flow depends?
what are hydraulic lines and total energy lines?
what is cavitation?
what is pitting?

then i was asked about my second favourite subject
i answered thermodynamics
i was asked to draw a steam cycle with all the critical lines and points in the diagram? what is the physical significance of each line?
second law of thermodynamics
otto cycle and diesel cycle difference?

then i was asked few questions on Machine design
mainly related to gears , the type of gears, relative advantages of each, herringbone gears, applications, gear ratio, gear mating and their way of manufacture, gear law

thats all i was asked

1> do not panic or get over excited, just be calm
2> if u dont know any answer, do not try to fool the interviewer
3> give short and to the point answer

well the selection process started with a written test

almost 30-35 students appeared for the test, though many were just sitting for experience

after the written test, where 60% was qualifying marks, total of 9 students passed to the second round for GD ( the qualifying marks had been lowered to 55%)

i dont know if the GD weighted anything or not, but all 6 who sat for the GD were called for personal interview

i was the first to be called for PI

and luckily i was selected too..
well good gpa always works positively for u but more than that u must know the technical well

of course luck needs to be good

what i feel that they dont expect each and every answer from u, say if u answer 80% of their questions with confidence and to the point, u stand a good chance

its my personal opinion and may vary with interviewer
