Quantitative : 0 Minutes
Reasoning / Analytical : 0 Minutes
Verbal English : 0 Minutes
Technical : 0 Minutes
Details of types of questions asked in each of the sections:
The aptitude test consisted about roughly 70+ questions covering quantitative, reasoning, verbal and technical.
Each question in quantitative and verbal had a time limit of 45 seconds. And for technical questions it was 1 minute.
The questions in quantitative and reasoning were straight forward but needed quite a number of calculations. Verbal
was of a moderately tough. Technical questions were asked from a wide range of topics covering almost everything
we had studied. The technical paper was the toughest. The aptitude test was given considerable weightage so every
mark you can squeeze is very essential.
Name of the Topic / Task : Industrialzation Vs Poverty Eradication
Time Given : 20 Minutes
Details of the process and your contribution:
The panel had shortlisted 9 people for the group discussion. The group discussion topic was given and we were
given couple of minutes to gather our thoughts about it. Usually bonus points are given to person who starts the
discussion, but if you are not clear in what you want to speak it’s better to join the discussion at a later stage. The
person who started the discussion was supporting Industrialization. I was not sure which side to take, but then
everybody started supporting Industrialization so I went all out for Poverty eradication. It helped me a lot because I
was arguing against 8 people and this fetched me more points.
There were five of us shortlisted for the interviews. There was only one interview round. The panel consisted of 2
people- one technical another from HR background. The interview lasted about 45 minutes. The techie guy asked
me my areas of interest, to which I replied Fluid Mechanics, Turbo machinery and Thermodynamics (Most
commonly preferred by students). He started of asking some practical questions like “What would we observe when
we operate a refrigerator when its door is opened and the room isolated”. After that he asked me to answer the
same question in terms of Entropy. Then he moved on to some simple questions from FM regarding the type of
flows and Mach number. As turbo machinery was the subject we had in 4-1, I was able to impress the guy
considerably. Before ending the technical part of the interview he took the liberty to scold me properly for not
spending much time to read mechanical literature time to time.
My first HR question was what all companies I had applied earlier, and I was asked to elaborate on why exactly I
was rejected for those companies. I blurted out that technical was never my strength. He asked about my family
and my sibling and what they do, why mechanical, my aim after five years, what would be my goal if I would be
placed in TATA, interests and hobbies where I elaborated on few outdoor sports they had no clue about. Then the
interview moved on to the next level and we started having a discussion about recession, Reliance-KG basin issue,
Tiger Woods scandal, sports talk about cricket, football, badminton, F1, tennis, chess and the problems faced by
sports persons in India and ending with why hockey is over shadowed by cricket in India. The guy told me that he
was impressed with me except that i sucked a bit in technical part.
For the aptitude do a couple of mock cats and you would be ready to go. And never ever try to fool the panel
members because they had an in depth knowledge in various fields. You would do well to develop some interest in a
couple of subjects. And i is always better to have good communication skills.
No. of Candidate applied And Points that Worked in Favour
First of all I had done exceedingly well in the aptitude test. That gave them a good impression about me. I am not
exactly an eloquent speaker but I tried my best to speak some sense in the GD round. I was lucky that everyone
else chose to speak against me so I effectively had an advantage. The HR guy actually pointed out that it would
have been better if I had been more aggressive. The interview was absolutely great. The panel members were
something like 50+ but still they were young at heart and came down to our level of thinking. They tried to make us
comfortable during the whole of the selection procedure.
